2019 – FIAT 500e BY HARMAN INTERNATIONAL

Harman International is one of the numerous technological companies that are present at CES 2019. This important event for the technology industry, celebrated in the city of Las Vegas and where year after year the automotive sector has more protagonism, welcomed the launch of interesting projects. One is from Harman International, a company owned by Samsung, and based on the Fiat 500e. Taking as its starting point the small and affordable Fiat electric car, Harman aimed to create a safer, connected and, above all, ‘smart’ car. The result appears in the images below. Harman International experts have made a lot of modifications on the small Italian town. The main point of this technologically retro-looking Fiat 500e is that it has a set of components that allow the vehicle to monitor, record and evaluate what is happening in its environment. It equips a series of cameras that are critical to the operation of driving assistance systems such as blind spot alert, track maintenance assistant and rear collision warning. Through a long-range radar, the vehicle is able to detect cars driving along the track to maintain a safe distance. It also equips a system that allows to monitor the driver himself. From your vision to the position of the head and the diameter of the pupil. This monitoring system also analyzes the heart rate and breathing of the passengers. Harman International points out that for level 3 stand-alone driving technology it will be crucial for the vehicle to know at all times whether the driver is ready to take command if necessary. Aesthetically the changes undergone by this example in relation to the Fiat 500e that is marketed in the United States are remarkable. After the conversion, a car without a roof appears and without conventional mirrors, since they have been replaced by cameras. As for the passenger compartment, what is most striking is the two new digital screens that it presents. They are generously sized and one of them is used as a digital instrument panel, while the other crowns the central console and serves to manage the infotainment system. Now the interior appears more clean and elegant.
